A View Of The Sea

I walk along the travelled road, on its narrow rural approach,
To the place where land forlornly ends and the sea so mightily begins;
I climb the metal gate and enter the verdant field
Which only has a boundary on two of its grassy sides.

I walk toward the tower, that observes the hidden ocean,
Before me, the horizon opens, becoming so wide, unearthly vast;
The sky crowns the land, blue against the green,
I cannot hear the sea, but I know it is very near.

As I walk and fix my gaze, so the ocean comes into view
A wide band of blue beneath the empty cerulean sky;
I stand quite close to the edge and hear the sea below me
Its waves greet the rocky shore, with kiss after gentle kiss.

The sunlight sparkles, it makes the sea as silver
The clement weather embraces, and this place sings so softly;
This place of undulating cliffs and dramatic views,
This moment of serenity, this place away from all.
