Ocean Splendour has a sweeping romantic grandeur that swells like the sea...
Ocean Splendour is the second of my self-produced albums. The album features fourteen original tracks of synthesizer music inspired by the sea. Five months in the making, this album of ocean music not only captures the magnificence and depth of beauty associated with ocean life, but also reveals an element of romantic impressionism inspired by composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams and Georges Auric. Ocean Splendour is unquestionably a romantic vision of the ancient sea kingdom, a musical interpretation of old-world beauty and sea mythology.
Ocean Splendour received airplay on domestic BBC radio in 2007.

Below are some comments from people who have listened to my music...
"A date with Debussy!...
An ambitious, dense piece of music that leans toward impressionism and romanticism."
La Monica - Oakland, California, USA - 24th November 2007.
"Solid soundscape...
Right from the first chord-wave you are awash with an incredibly thick carpet texture of music creating an absolutely incredible mood! Kind of a "Wagner meets Debussy" effect! Stunning and inspiring in its complexity and simplicity! This was absolutely GRAND on every level! What a pleasure! A first class job all the way round! BRAVO and BRAVO again! All the very best of luck!"
Lui Gentile - Eitorf, Germany - 20th November 2007.
"Undeniably beautiful!...
I liked the chord choices from the very start. It's gorgeous! Production is very well done. The harp is amazing! It's great for a film or just to listen to on CD."
Pam Isato - San Luis Obispo, California, USA - 30th December 2007.
"Such a healing medicine...
This song really can make me go deep in meditation, and would be a great help when giving high-frequency healings..."
Leosan - Skudeneshavn, Norway - 9th March 2008.
"Dawn...
Reminds me of the first light of dawn. The instrumentation is superb. I liked the choral effect. It is truly stunning! Well done you."
Felixstowe, Suffolk, United Kingdom - 29th February 2008.
"Wonderful Creation!...
This is so beautiful to listen to - the overall feel, the light bells, wavy sound - everything is perfect! Nice production, mix - everything fits so well ... and the voices, icing on the cake! Nice job. Congratulations..."
Demetrius Stevenson - Los Angeles, California, USA - 29th January 2008.
"Feel like swimming?...
I really enjoyed this song, it makes you feel like you're floating in an ocean of space. This is a beautiful piece of music. It is a very peaceful song."
James Girouard - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - 17th January 2008.
"Voice of things to come...
The overall mood set by this piece is very strong. The builds come in wave-like patterns. The voices float over and in and out like clouds."
Darin Hyer - Pensacola, Florida, USA - 17th January 2008.
"Fantastical soundtrack!...
Cool underwater sounding strings... kind of reminds me of Tangerine Dream and the soundtrack to Legend. Very surreal and fantastical in all its elements. Picturesque in scope, the music dreams up images of faraway places of magic and mystery. I especially love the tone of the harp combined with everything else. Overall, the mood is majestic and surreal!"
Kenny Woods - New York City, New Jersey, USA - 11th January 2008.
"Thank you, I'm emotionally satisfied!...
If this is all keyboard, bravo! you could write movie scores. The melodic lines were well thought out and the harmonies and chords were great!"
Poetic Jazz - Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA - 8th January 2008.
"Beautiful!...
A good meditative tune. Well balanced, and good choice of instruments. Captures the essence of tranquillity."
Slybarman - Auckland, New Zealand - 7th January 2008.
"Taken away!...
Just loved this track!... within seconds a musical soundscape opens the imagination into acoustic panorama. The melody, instrumentation and effects are all quite simple, yet crafted together perfectly, the work of a true artist. The words magnificent and wonderful jump to mind. I could listen to this track over and over again."
John Stitch - United Kingdom - 5th January 2008
"Magistral progression...
I like the orchestration and the great progression of the song. It is very magistral and creates a great sound space."
JFV - Quebec, Canada - 26th December 2007.
"Heavenly!...
I like the sound and feel on the opening ... mixing into the heavenly floating-in-clouds feeling created by the synthesizer. Very relaxing, very pleasant. Nice job. Great production and arrangement."
Dantharp - Green Valley, Illinois, USA - 2nd December 2007.
"Romantic score...
Mmmmmm nice theme! and some nice chords - dare I say slightly Vangelis-like in sound - but a good and original production. Very filmic and would make a good romantic underscore."
Audio Detective - Essex, United Kingdom - 29th November 2007.
"Beautiful ambience!...
This piece does a nice job of setting the moods ranging from awed reverence to peaceful dreaminess. The harp arpeggios give movement and pulse. Nice job with the choral 'ahhs' ... they aren't too heavy as they so often are. The orchestration provides a varied texture as dominance is shared between strings alone and other voices combined."
Leslie Dripps - Richmond, Virginia, USA - 27th November 2007.
"A Calm Light...
A Calm Light is a remarkably relaxing CD which I have found rewarding. I like to listen to it when I am unwinding from work. I can recommend this disc for meditation, tai chi and reflexology, which this type of music is ideal for."
J Byford - United Kingdom - June 2007.

Mark Woollacott - Profile
I am a musician and songwriter who lives and works in Barnstaple, Devon, United Kingdom. I play the synthesizer and the electric guitar and have been creating music on-and-off for more than twenty years.
My debut album A Calm Light (an album of melodic synthesizer music created specifically as an aid to achieving relaxation) was released on 1st June 2007 and features over an hour of deeply restful relaxation music. My second album of synthesizer music, Ocean Splendour, was released in November 2007. One of the tracks from this album (The Whale's Last Journey) received airplay on BBC radio soon after its release. Ocean Splendour was created for people who have an affinity with the sea.
My Music Philosophy
Music for me is all about beauty; and it is this theme which reminds me that music is first and foremost a medium which caters for the emotional, spiritual and aesthetic preferences in people. Music is clearly a form of communication which is often telling us something more about life, and through it there lies the potential for beauty, harmony and expression of emotion to arise and the possibility to touch people deeply on an inner level. As long as we need uplifting and feel the need to be soothed and relaxed, music will always appeal to our minds, our hearts and to our aesthetic needs.

Listening to Relaxing Music
The demand for relaxation music is truly continuing at an ever faster pace as more people turn to music as a way to experience relaxation. Relaxation music is a popular musical genre which has helped and delighted millions of people worldwide. This type of music is designed specifically to aid relaxation.
The effectiveness of relaxation music arises from a number of important factors: repetitive musical phrasing and consistency, a slow tempo, the correct choice of instrumentation, and the musical frequencies used. These things, combined with the composer's performance and the quality of the recording, result in a form of music that can be extremely useful for gently relaxing the mind and body.
Music does relax - it's been proved - hospitals and universities have carried out studies and have researched the benefits of listening to relaxing music. It's well known that music and sound waves affect the heartbeat, the brain, influence our moods and affects the blood and water in our bodies (70% of our body is water), especially when exposed to intense sound vibrations, particularly in the lower frequency range. So it is important we listen to the right kind of music if we are to give our bodies and minds an opportunity each day in which to relax and quieten.
Sound used as a form of therapy is not a new concept. In ancient times, musicians sometimes used musical techniques as a way to bring comfort and relaxation to people who were anxious or ill. So it's no surprise, that even today, with the increased growth and popularity of complementary therapies, health and wellness treatments, that music (mostly in the form of background music) still plays a role in helping to create a relaxing and soothing atmosphere for people.
