I wander through the streets of life, where people plan their own agendas,
Prompted by a range of motives from altruism, goodwill or selfishness;
Coloured by innumerable idiosyncrasies, the routines of life are carried out,
And performed out of necessity, boredom, optimism or delight.
The happiness that I long to see upon the faces of all
Still lies dormant and is suppressed by unhelpful worldly influences;
But destinies can alter like the direction of the wind
And stability in society can be sought and gradually achieved.
The 'mind sets' of cultures evolve through a collective behaviour
Influenced by words, media, art, theories, actions and emotions;
It is never static, it is never one voice directing all,
And as a response to any decent change, should be hope and a search for peace.
If only ethical and spiritual values were more evenly represented,
And understood and practiced by every waking person,
Then empathy and compassion would never be a weakness
And an equilibrium would arise through a moderation of behaviour.
But too many people walk by, suffering quietly from within;
Sometimes there is too much injustice and anger in the world;
And the leaders and the speakers who hold the most influence
Sadly fail to materialize the collective happiness I long to see.
