Ancient beauty and vibrant colour, such elegance and naturalism surprises me:
Faces of all ages adorn these bodies, so carefully wrapped, all according to custom:
These faces appear like living reflections: the eyes always open to night and day,
Their wakefulness captured perfectly, by art and by the greatest skill.
Portraits of a thousand treasured moments, fondly remembered by their long departed souls,
Which once breathed, through living lips, the sweet air of the Old World;
And now they lie: eternally composed, graceful and in deathly serenity,
And through the drift and passing of centuries, their faces reveal a history.
A beauty never to be forgotten, among the changing sands of the ancient world,
A time when empires grew and crumbled and
cultures evolved through art;
This style impresses itself upon me and calls to me, like a muse,
And in my mind, I see them again: the eyes of the truly beautiful.
