What is a Giclée print?
In simple terms, Giclée (pronounced 'jee-clay' or 'zhee-clay') is a word which has come to be associated with fine art digital print reproduction. Giclée is a French word which means 'to squirt or spray'. A giclée print is created using high quality light-fast inks, which are pigment based, on various types of coated printing papers, from archival matte and semi-gloss papers to acid-free cotton rag papers and cotton canvas. Giclée printing is a form of professional inkjet printing which uses specially manufactured large format printers (not to be confused with the basic desktop inkjet printers most people have at home) containing eight or more ink cartridges to create high quality digital reproductions. Many artists nowadays tend to be in favour of producing giclée prints of their artwork. Normally, the artist pays a professional to scan their painting using a flat-bed scanner or a high resolution mounted scanner to create a highly detailed and accurate digital image of the artwork, which is then saved as a computer file; and from this file - once the image has been colour-balanced on a computer and a proof has been printed - a print is produced. Traditional hand-made printing or lithographic printing uses a different process to create prints.

Canvas Print information
These stunning, highly detailed fine art limited edition prints have been professionally printed onto 340gsm acid-free pure cotton canvas and printed using Giclée digital printing technology for superior print quality. Ultrachrome K3 inks, approved by the Fine Art Trade Guild for lightfastness, were used in the printing process. These are high quality archival pigment-based inks which have been tested by Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc. These prints, which were created directly from a scan of the original painting, will last 80 to 100 years or longer, depending on how they are stored and displayed. The stretcher bars used for this print are made from laminated pine, which have been sourced from managed forests. The image has been cloned and mirrored around the sides of the canvas. Each canvas print has been spray-coated with a protective matt finish (with UV stability) and has been expertly hand-finished with archival tape, felt corners and supplied with hanging furniture. Each print has been individually signed and numbered and comes supplied with print information.
