All paintings have been protected with a removable artists' varnish. Note: the copyright watermark shown at the bottom left corner of all the images on this website are not on the actual physical painting.

Ordering online at markwoollacott.com is quick, safe and easy. I have been using PayPal on my website since 2009. To order online just click on the secure PayPal “Pay Now” payment button located below the artwork that you wish to purchase. For buyers from countries not using PayPal, please contact me directly by email to arrange payment.

This stunning painting of Veolia Environnement MOD70 Trimaran racing past the Needles, Isle of Wight, brings alive the drama of the Rolex Fastnet Race. The Fastnet Race takes place every two years over a course of 608 nautical miles. The race starts at Cowes, Isle of Wight, and leaves The Solent through The Needles Channel. The race follows the southern coastline of England westward, through the English Channel, then goes around Land's End, Cornwall, before crossing the Celtic Sea. The race rounds the Fastnet Rock, located off the south-west coast of Ireland, and then heads south, where the race rounds the Isles of Scilly and then finishes at Plymouth. In 2014, MOD70 02 was bought by US-based Orion Racing. This painting is based on a photograph taken by Alex Irwin.

This painting depicts Curlew, a Falmouth Quay Punt, which has had a long and distinguished career as a leisure boat and has travelled many thousands of miles, from the Arctic Circle to the mainland of Antarctica. Designed and built in Falmouth by R S Burt in 1905, Curlew was commissioned by Frank Jose. She was used as a working boat, but the quay punt trade declined and Frank registered her as a fishing boat in 1915. From 1936 Curlew had a number of owners; her rig was altered and she was converted for the leisure market with a deck and accommodation below. In 2003, her new owners (the Carrs) donated Curlew to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, and she came home to Falmouth.

This painting features former trawler Leader sailing off Salcombe, Devon, during 2014. This wooden, deep-sea fishing trawler, was one of the largest Brixham trawlers made and was built in 1892 at W. A. Gibbs’ yard at Galmpton on the River Dart in Devon. She sailed and fished in UK waters until 1907, when she was sold and went to Sweden. She is now part of the Trinity Fleet, based in Brixham, Devon. This painting is based on a photograph by Alex Irwin.

This painting depicts Mariette of 1915. Mariette was designed and built as "Project 698" by Nathanael Herreshoff, at his Bristol, Rhode Island yard, for prominent yachtsman Harold S. Vanderbilt. Mariette is a classic two-masted gaff schooner, built in 1915. She was part of a series of seven large schooners built by the Herreshoff shipyard. Mariette and her sister-ship Vagrant are the last of this series of schooners that are still in service. Mariette and Vagrant are smaller versions of the earlier Eleonora and Westward, also by Herreshoff.

Skipper Jacob F. Brown sailed on Mariette until 1927. She was then sold to Francis B. Crowninshield, from a family with a sailing tradition, whose first ship was Cleopatra’s Barge. In homage to this ship, they renamed Mariette to Cleopatra’s Barge II. The rigging was modified into a Bermuda rig. In 1939, Mariette was requisitioned for service with the US Coast Guard and used for patrols. Crowninshield was given his ship back in 1946, in a state of disrepair, and sold her.

In the following years, Mariette had several owners and various names. At some point, she was owned by Walter Boudreau under the name Janeen. From 1979 to 1990, she belonged to Andrea Rizzoli, who had her restored at the Beconcini shipyard (Cantieri Navali Beconcini) in La Spezia, Italy. In 1982, she was used as a charter in the Caribbean. In 1995, Thomas J. Perkins, from San Francisco, purchased her and restored her original rigging. The same year, Mariette collided with the 6-metre Taos Brett IV during the Nioulargue race, killing one of the sailors.

He sailed in various Mediterranean races until 2005. He then sold Mariette to a French skipper, base in Antibes. Mariette now sails out of Antibes, France, under the French flag.

This painting is based on a reference photograph which I took on Thursday 16th May 2013. An hour before I took this photograph, the sky had been filled with grey cloud and the scene had been quite overcast; but by 7:00 p.m. the cloud had begun to break up and to disperse in places, revealing a beautiful evening sky filled with a soft warm light. I took the photo a short distance from the London Eye, looking toward Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament; with Westminster Abbey and the Methodist Central Hall behind, and Portcullis House to the right of Parliament. On this trip to London, I was privileged to be invited to the Victoria Tower, where the Parliamentary archives are kept and maintained and was given a tour of parts of the Houses of Parliament and show some of the rare artworks that are on display.

This painting took three months to complete. Every detail is accurate. Many hours were spent in applying fine paint layering and careful brushwork when depicting the ornate details of the Houses of Parliament. This painting has been professionally framed and expertly hand finished by a Trade Guild picture framer.
